Event: Log Skidder Conversion
Date: 09/15/2014
Description: I made a log skidder for my ATV. I built it so I could dissemble it and store it easily. But after 3 seasons, it was clear that it wasn't the best design. Since I tried to keep it 'minimal', I didn't put a lift on it. Then, when I started looking to replace it, a denizen of Shop Talk (oh, great Shop talk!) Sent me a simple way to reconfigure what I had to add the 'auto-lift'. It was a stroke of genius.
So a afternoon of welding and it was done. I used the scraps I had, and it still needs to be blasted and panted. Before I 'finalized it', I gave it a baptism by fire. Low and behold, this thing ROCKS!! I really pushed it to the limit and it came back for more!
To give you an idea of my production now (with a Wolverine 14A Wood Processor and ATV as well) I was able to fell, skid, split, and stack 6 cords of wood in about 5 hours!! BY MYSELF!

Wheels are well protected, but they are accessable with a few bolts. It still stores well!
