Other Notes: The Gandomak Restaurant is two different entities that deserve separate reviews (and they will get two different ones!)
This reveiw is for the BAR downstairs. While it's a very quaint and nice set up, there are some real problems with it. The downstairs is a little bar with all the atmosphere (and smoke) of any English Pub. That is where the positive review of the bar stops…
The place is very smoky and reminds me of club hopping back in the US in the 80s and 90s before the smoking bans were put in place.
The drinks are VERY expensive (even for Kabul prices.) To future add insult to injury, you must use “coupons” to pay for the drinks. This means you need to go outside to the guard house and buy the coupons (conveniently sold in denominations that make it impossible to use them all up on drinks.)
The selection of beverages is weak, again, even for Kabul. Please note that ANY place that claims to be an English pub must, and this is not negotiable, serve Guinness Beer. Period, end of story.
