If I had to give Sufi a tagline, it would be, “Where philosophy meets food.”

Sufi is an amazing gem of a restaurant that was quite surprising. It was more than we expected, for LESS than we expected.

The security is very good. A large sally port, with a metal detector (I had to pass through) and armed guards. Besides the sally port, there is a long corridor that opens into a courtyard that further sets the restaurant away from anything that happens on the streets.

Once you walk in, you can see that this is no ordinary restaurant. Right up front, they are plenty of tables configured in the traditional Middle Eastern fashion (sitting on cushions on the floor.) They have normal tables as well, for westerners. Since my dining buddy has been complaining about some pain he has, he opted for the normal table.

The menu (cover shown below) is interesting and well presented. The first page continues the ‘philosophy meets food’ motif. Another nice feature, half the menu was in Dari. This means that they allow locals which many restaurants do not. This is a plus for sure!

When the food arrived, it was great! I had a Biryana Palauw meal (rice, chicken, broccoli, and almonds) that was completely a one of kind experience.

The pitas were fresh and soft. The food on all levels was excellent and the portions were more than generous.

The bathrooms are clean and spacious. They aren’t the typical “toilet in a closet” that most restaurants have.

When the bill came, I didn’t think it was right. It was half of what we normally pay for lunch! With a quick review, it was true. The price was dirt cheap!

Sufi is a great place to eat, in the middle of the downtown area. It won my heart. It is a place with a philosophy, and that philosophy is “excellence at truly low prices!”
