Other Notes: Well the Mai Thai is a nice restaurant with a well designed eating area. It also has a separate bar area that is pretty cozy. The security is good with an adequate sally port and a few armed guards.

The place got smoky pretty quickly with only a few smokers. The waiter did open a window on request, which helped a lot.

One neat thing about this review is that one of the guys with us marred a Thai women and lives in Thailand. So I was able to get excellent “authenticity” review as well as a quality review. He likes his food spicy. He also ordered a side of “Thai spices.” I have no idea what was in the bowl, but it didn’t look like something I was going to try. He stated the food for “Thailand” would be a 4, for outside of Thailand it was a 5.5, for in Kabul, it was a 6.

The appetizers (which are labeled “Entrees”) on the menu are good. I ordered a sampler (the #108.) Each piece was very good. The sauces were excellent.

For my main entree (which weren’t labeled on the menu at all, ironically,) I had a beef stir fry in peanut sauce. It was excellent! The table was also served with regular rice and “garlic rice.” Both were good, but I would only use the garlic rice next time as it added a great taste to the stir fry.

I had the fried bananas with a side of ice cream for desert. It was an unremarkable desert. The ice cream was more of frozen milk than any ice cream. That was a disappointment.

For the bad, the green tea was weak. The price was a little high. The food came out a plate at a time, with a few minutes in between each other. Finally, the bathroom window opens directly into the kitchen. Yes, into the kitchen. Note, they have added a screen, louvers, and small windows to cover this fact up, but for an Intel hound like me, I figured it out right away.

Overall, the Mai Thai is a great meal for a slightly higher price. You do get what you pay for. I would go back, but only after I tried a bunch more restaurants first.
