Other Notes: Spojmay Restaurant is in one of the most scenic places in Kabul. The atmosphere can not be beat. Its “open air” compound extends over a little peninsula near a lake. The setting is spectacular! You can sit in any where from a very private “grotto,” or a much more open table right on the water.
Security is excellent here. It’s got armed guards that don’t even let you near the place without being checked out. There is a weird ticket that you buy at the security both that you can redeem for a drink. I think it’s the same reason the Gandamac does it.
The food lacks real quality. It’s not bad, but it’s served almost as a “side gig.” People must come for the atmosphere and the food is secondary. All of our meals arrived cold, but were eatable. This really isn’t a problem as the cost for the food is DIRT CHEAP! Service is slow, but understandable when you see the size of the place.
As I went around looking at the other tables and eating areas, I found a really nice private area complete with a peacock! How’s that for exotic dining?
Over all, if you want a place to hang out and enjoy the scenery, and you aren’t too concerned with the overall food quality, Spojmay is for you!
