Other Notes: I don’t know what connection there is between Lebanese food, Kabul, and the best restaurants. But two of the top three restaurants so far in this city are Lebanese.

I dare say that Taverna Du Liban is the best restaurant so far in Kabul.

First off, they have great atmosphere. Their enclosed porch is reminiscent of high class Lebanese restaurants world-side. They also have Hookah service, which is rare in the US.

Next, is the food. Now, I’m not talking about the food YOU order. You see, at the Taverna Du Liban, they bring you additional food, for free, to round out your meal. This is the only restaurant here in Kabul (and only one of the few in the world) to ever “best” me in quantity.

This place can handle parties as well. In fact, the first time we were there, a group of locals were celebrating a birthday. As they cut the cake, which was the size of a Chevy big block engine, they brought over two slices for me and my co-worker. The pieces were each the size of a cinder block. I had just undid my belt to try and make room for the extra food they already served us, when the cake was placed in front of me. Since I didn’t want to offend the gracious party guests, I managed to stuff most of the cake down my gullet. I skipped the next TWO meals after that as I was still full from that lunch.

If I need to go to a place with great food, atmosphere, and friendly staff, Taverna Du Liban is top of the list!
